Holmes Community Development Corporation (CDC) would like to take this time to thank all of the residents in the Sunnyside Community for supporting the revitalization efforts. The CDC began this journey with the spirit of enhancing the community both physically and economically. Our mission and vision has not only been accepted by the Sunnyside residents but also by many others.

With the support of Washington Mutual, Rockwell Fund, LISC and the Houston Endowment, Holmes Community Development Corporation has gained much momentum and is ready to achieve even more goals. The CDC along with Houston Family Homes and Wiley P. Homes has been able to add an additional 10 new residents to the Sunnyside Community. With 2005 in the foresight we are now preparing to meet our goal of adding 30 more residents.

Holmes CDC would also like to give a special thanks to the Brookhaven and Sunnyside Civic Clubs for their continual and dedicated support. The CDC wants to encourage every resident to come out to the monthly meetings and be a part of the decision making process for your community.

Another special thanks to Councilmember ADA Edwards, Wanda Robinson liaison for Mayor Bill White, and the many supporters at Neighborhood Protection. With your support Holmes Community Development Corporation and the Sunnyside residents have been able to address many community issues leaving very positive results.

Again, Holmes CDC wants to say thank you and our hope is that we continue to work together to achieve great things in the Sunnyside Community.

Brookhaven - Putting Forth Extra Effort

Brookhaven Civic Club is swinging in full force this year. Extra effort has been given where community awareness has improved greatly. The Brookhaven Civic Club has put forth extra effort to keep the residents informed of issues involving the community, its surroundings and also trying to get the residents involved.

Former Brookhaven Civic Club President Virgie Miller, who has been a resident of Brookhaven for more than 30 years says that, “The Civic Club will not give up on its neighbors or the neighborhood. We will continue to invite the residents to the Civic Club meetings in hope that they will come out and understand that it is important for them to get involved. They’ll never see change until they come out, learn about the change and help make the change.” Mrs. Miller teams up with Civic Club’s Secretary, Anna Turner on a regular basis to invite residents to come out by calling or by meeting and greeting.

Ruthie Hatton, President of Brookhaven Civic Club and Holmes Community Development’s, LaShay Smith has also put forth extra effort by issuing invite cards to residents prior to every meeting. Vice President, Robert Hatton, Secretary, Anna Turner, and Block Captains Cleve Broussard, Joseph Kuykendal, Ray Chavis, and Windle West also put forth effort to do whatever they can.

Other Civic Club members say that some of the Brookhaven residents have no interest at all in attending the meetings because they don’t see anything that’s being done. The members greatly stress that if you don’t come to the meetings to learn what’s going on then you will never know what’s being done….whether it’s on another street or right next door.

Help support your neighborhood!!!
Get involved!
