The Holmes Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a private not for profit single-family housing, community development and economic development organization. Since 1996, Holmes CDC has been diligently been working towards the total revitalization of the Sunnyside Community in Houston, Texas. The CDC continues to pursue economic development, education, and self-help activities to ensure that all residents achieve their highest potential.

The outcome projected by Holmes CDC includes continuing to work towards meeting the long-term needs of the Sunnyside community which consists of a family-centered, environment, safe community and eliminate vacant lots. Holmes CDC recognizes that the needs of children considered at-risk are not likely to be met unless overall family needs are met.

Holmes CDC had earned the support of the City of Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department, winning an operating grant for the first year of full-time work. Since then The Texas Association of CDC’s, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, Rockwell Fund Houston Endowment, Texas Mezzanine Fund and Unity Bank has assisted and financially support the CDC. Holmes CDC started the first new construction in Sunnyside in decades.

We at Holmes CDC are producing affordable housing and promoting homeownership as part of a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy. With the support of special programs and top lenders we are providing families with credit counseling, homeownership education, homebuyer assistance and various home buying grants that can be given, if eligible. Special incentives and discounts can also be provided to teachers, firefighters, policemen and veterans. By working with families to repair credit and train homebuyers, Holmes CDC is building families who are ready and able to become stakeholders in the Sunnyside community. We continue to move forward with the help of the City of Houston and all of our supporters.
